Brazil candidate can't use Jackson song in jingle

BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) — Sony Music says it has obtained a court order barring a state legislative candidate in northeastern Brazil from using a Michael Jackson song in his campaign.



A Sony Music spokeswoman says Lindolfo Pires was using Jackson's "Beat It" as a campaign jingle without authorization. Sony Music is the song's copyright holder.



The spokeswoman released the information Thursday. She asked not to be identified in line with company policy.



Because of the court order, Pires withdrew the jingle that was being played on his website.



Pires was quoted by the PB Agora newspaper Wednesday as saying that he was surprised by Sony's complaint. He said a friend linked the song to his campaign to give it a lighthearted touch.
