Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell has announced Tuesday July 8 as the date for general elections in Grenada.

Addressing a rally of his ruling New National Party (NNP), in St. John last night, Dr. Mitchell said Nomination Day for the election would be on June 18 and that police officers would vote on July 3.

Mitchell said that the Parliament would be prorogued on Tuesday, June 3.

The NNP is expected to face a strong challenge from the main opposition National Democratic Party (NDC).

The other party expected to contest the poll is the Grenada United Labour Party that was formed by the late Grenadian Prime Minister Sir Eric Gairy.

In the last general election, the NNP won eight of the 15 seats at stake with the other seven seats going to the NDC.
