King on verge of signing with Coventry

Troubled Reggae Boyz striker Marlon King is on the verge of signing a deal with League Championship Coventry City, just a month after being released from jail for assault.

The 30-year-old is currently in talks with the West Midlands club over a new contract and manager Aidy Boothroyd says he is hoping to secure the former Hull City and Wigan Athletic front man.

Boothroyd says Marlon King has been training with the club for the last few days and the coaches have put him through a raft of tests to measure his level of fitness.

King is trying to resuscitate a career which took a serious blow after he was charged for assaulting a woman last year in a London nightclub, and subsequently spent nine months in jail.

He was released last month and immediately indicated that he was hoping to find a club at which to ply his trade.

Boothroyd, who worked with King in his time at Watford, says both parties are very close to reaching a deal.

King’s agent Tony Finnigan, says his player was keen in reuniting with Boothroyd at the Sky Blues.
