Ten Jamaicans, including Nesta Carter, are down to compete at the 60th edition of the Hanzekovic Memorial in Zagreb, Croatia today, the final International Association of Athletics Federations World Challenge Meeting of the season.

Carter and American Tyson Gay, the year’s two fastest men, will face off in a 100-metre showdown.

Both Gay, the U.S. record holder, and the rapidly-improving Carter, will enter the meet as the co-world leaders at 9.78 seconds.

Gay’s performance came at the London Samsung Diamond League fixture on August 13, which he nearly replicated in Brussels last Friday when he clocked 9.79 seconds to capture the Diamond Race Trophy in the event.

Carter, a member of Jamaica’s gold medal winning 4 by 100-metre Relay squad at the 2008 Olympics, equalled the best time of the year on Sunday in Rieti, to suddenly become the fourth fastest man in history.

Gay, who is still targeting his 9.69 U.S. record, which came late in the season last year, is clearly the man to beat.

The race also features another Jamaican, Michael Frater.

Other Jamaican men listed to compete are Dwight Thomas, in the 110-metre hurdles, and national record holder Dorian Scott, in the men’s shot put.

Kaliese Spencer, who secured the Diamond League Trophy in the women’s 400-metre hurdles, will lead the Jamaican women down to compete.

Spencer and Nickiesha Wilson will run in the 400-metre hurdles.

Shericka Williams will run in the 400 metres, Kenia Sinclair will compete in the 800 metres, Delloreen Ennis-London, the 100-metre hurdles and Trecia Smith will participate in the triple jump.
