Jamaica, England face off today

The two-test National Commercial Bank Sunshine Series between Jamaica and England serves off this evening at 7.30pm at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, with the Jamaicans hoping to rebound from a disastrous tour Down Under (Australia).

The Jamaicans will be at full strength, but are on a low after suffering five straight defeats Down Under last month. The Sunshine Girls were thrashed 3-0 by world number one Australia before suffering a 2-0 defeat to world number two New Zealand.

However, the Connie Francis-coached squad has been boosted with the return of the experienced trio of ¬ captain Simone Forbes, Kasey Evering and Althea Byfield, who all missed the recent tour.

England, ranked third in the world, one ahead of Jamaica, won their only practice match ahead of the test series.

They defeated Business House Open League champions Scotiabank 35-26 at the G.C. Foster College in Spanish Town on Monday night.

Goal shooter Rachel Dunn led England with a game-high 15 goals from 22 attempts. She was supported by Jo Hasten with 11 from 20, goal attack Pamela Cookey with six from five and Rosie Allison four from eight.

The teams are using the series as preparation for the Commonwealth Games in India next month.
