Sarwan disappointed by WICB snub
Ramnaresh Sarwan says he was not surprised at being overlooked for a central retainer contract but says the move by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will not distract him from leading Guyana at the Champions League 20/20 in South Africa starting next week.
The former West Indies captain was dumped from the list of 14 offered contracts by the WICB, due to what the WICB called unsatisfactory levels of general fitness.
He was one of six players, along with Denesh Ramdin, Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin and the Jamaican pair of Dave Bernard and Jerome Taylor, who were snubbed.
Sarwan says he knew for about three weeks that the WICB was not going to offer him a central contract.
The right-hander, who turned 30 in June, says despite the latest disappointment he remained committed to West Indies cricket.
Sarwan averages 41 from 83 Tests but has not played a Test since last December because of injury. He returned to play two of the five One-Day Internationals against South Africa in May before falling prey to injury again.
Sarwan and Guyana are expected to leave Monday for South Africa to contest the September 10 to 26 20/20 championships.
