Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive is on the defensive regarding the speed of reconstruction in the quake-ravaged country.

Speaking at the Americas Conference in Florida, Bellerive said the rubble in the capital Port au Prince is being cleared as fast as possible.

He told the conference that presidential elections will be held in November as planned, and that recovery projects initiated since the January 12 earthquake remain on track.

The prime minister also listed a number of accomplishments including the restoration of electricity, getting students back to school and his government’s plans for roads linking cities throughout the country.
