St Lucia election

As the campaign for the next general election in St. Lucia heats up the two main political parties have been exchanging barbs on the issue of race which they both agree is novel to any election in St. Lucia.

The controversy was sparked by a statement from the deputy political leader of the main opposition St. Lucia Labour Party (SLP) Phillip J Pierre.

Reports are that Pierre at a party constituency conference, pointed an accusatory finger at Tourism Minister Allen Chastanet whom he accuses of wanting to represent and control both the economic and black political classes in the country.

Since he was endorsed by the ruling party to contest the Soufriere seat, Chastanet who is Caucasian has been targeted for criticism by the SLP.
