Powell parts way with Lancashire

Discarded West Indies pacer, Daren Powell, has parted ways with English County, Lancashire, after completing just one season of a two-year deal.



A brief statement from the club says the player had reached an amicable agreement to end his contract earlier.



The 32-year-old Jamaican struggled for form at the north England club, managing just four Championship matches and mustering just seven wickets at an average of 49.0.



Powell picked up a further seven wickets at 44.85 in the Clydesdale Bank 40 limited overs tournament.



The right-armer has played 37 Tests and 55 One-Day Internationals, but is on the tail end of his career, after playing his last international match against England in the Caribbean in March last year.



In February this year, Powell pulled out of the Jamaica squad during the regional four-day championship, after taking just two wickets an average of 73 in two matches.



He cited "personal reasons" for his decision, but then chairman of selectors Nehemiah Perry, said the bowler was no longer enjoying playing cricket and was not motivated to continue playing at the highest level.



Powell has had previous county stints at Derbyshire and Hampshire.
