The Guyanese government has taken its child protection initiative directly to mini-bus operators, urging them not to have sexual relations with school girls.
Yesterday Human Services Minister Priya Manickchand appealed to mini-bus drivers at an open air seminar held at one of the busiest mini-bus parks to help protect the country's children.
The appeal was made as part of Child Protection Week activities in the country.
Over the years, several bus operators have been prosecuted in the courts for rape committed on under-aged girls.
The age of sexual consent in Guyana is 16 years.
