The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) says it is concerned about what could be an extended delay in a return to constitutional government in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI).
In a statement, the regional grouping described as a disquieting development, the recent decision of the British government to postpone indefinitely, elections in the TCI.
It says the continuation of the imposition of direct rule from London on the British overseas territory is totally at odds with the development of good governance.
The CARICOM is calling for the direct rule in the Turks and Caicos to be replaced by self rule and a return to democracy for the people of the TCI.
The TCI is an associate member of CARICOM.
