Haitian students head to Africa

One-hundred-and-sixty Haitian students who were victims of the devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince in January are to be flown to Senegal this week to continue their studies at universities there.

The move is part of a promise made to the students by the president of Senegal, Abdoulaye Wade, in January.

President Wade has asked local families to offer to host the students when they arrive next week.

He considers the students the sons and daughters of Africa because their ancestors were taken to the Caribbean as slaves.

Both Haiti and Senegal are former French colonies.
