Trinidad and Tobago’s Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Rowley has called for Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar to take action against her Works and Transport Minister Austin Warner.

The issue concerns a multi-million dollar contract for upgrading the lighting system at the two airports in the twin island republic.

According to the Opposition Leader, Warner disregarded the absence of a board and proceded to authorise the award of the contracts.

However, in a statement over the weekend Prime Minister Bissessar said the matter of the contracts had been brought to her attention and that she had instructed that if a contract was awarded in the absence of accountability and transparency, it should be voided.

She also said that in light of the allegations now in the public domain, the award of the contracts in question must be reviewed.

The US$13.8 million contracts were awarded to United Engineering Services Limited and Harry Persad and Sons Limited in October last year
