Former Barbados PM to resume leadership of opposition

Media reports out of Barbados are suggesting that the country’s former Prime Minister Owen Arthur is poised to resume the leadership of the Opposition in parliament.

A decision on the future parliamentary leadership of the Barbados Labour Party, known locally as the Bees, is expected to be made at a meeting of members of parliament.

Two local newspapers say a majority have pledged to support Arthur, a three-term prime minister, and ditch current leader Mia Mottley.

Mottley took over the leadership of the Bees in January 2008 after Arthur stepped down when the party lost the general elections the same month.
