Courtney Walsh Award nominations

Nominations for the 2008 Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence is now opened and will close on August 29.



The National Council on Sports launched the award in 2004 in collaboration with the Culture, Health, Arts, Sports and Education Fund to honour the former Jamaica and West Indies cricketer.



The award recognises the achievements of sports persons, who display a high level of humility, integrity, discipline and other exemplary qualities while excelling in their chosen field.



Each nominee must be a Jamaican national between 18 and 40, who have represented the country at the senior level in a sport recognised by the Institute of Sports and the Jamaica Olympic Association.



Walsh, who represented the West Indies between 1984 and 2004, previously held the world record for most Test wickets, 519.



Former Jamaica and West Indies cricket captain Jimmy Adams won the $500,000 prize in its inaugural year.
