The Organisation of American States (OAS) says its encouraged by the efforts of Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council to mount public information and education campaigns ahead of next month’s general election.

There have been concerns about the credibility of the presidential elections scheduled to take place on November 28.

According to the OAS assistant secretary general Albert Ramdim, a simulation of the Election Day operations at the counting center was held with representatives of political parties and the electoral council.

He says several political parties and candidates have since decided to reconsider a planned boycott of the elections.

There were reservations about Haiti’s ability to hold the elections given the slow pace of recovery following the January 12 earthquake, as well as the transparency of the process.
