Barbados opposition wants healing
Newly elected leader of the opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP), Owen Arthur, has promised that there will be no bloodletting in the party.
The former prime minister was speaking after BLP members of parliament voted out predecessor Mia Mottley.
Arthur however acknowledged that there might be a long period of healing within the party.
Mottley was elected in January 2008 after Arthur stepped down following a general election defeat.
Political scientist George Belle believes MPs looked at the situation within the governing Democratic Labour Party and decided that Arthur would be best able to lead the BLP should there be an early general election.
The government is facing its own internal leadership tensions as Prime Minister David Thompson battles pancreatic cancer.
