The Leeward Islands defeated arch rivals Windward Islands by four runs at Sabina Park today to book their place in the final of the West Indies Cricket Board One-Day Championship.

Set a victory target of 214, Windward Islands were restricted to 209 for nine against the bowling of Anthony Martin three for 23 and Lionel Baker two for 52.

Lyndon James 64 and Johnson Charles 34 were the chief scorers for Windward Islands.

Earlier, Leeward Islands opting to bat first were bowled out for 213 off 49 overs with newly-appointed West Indies captain Darren Sammy taking four for 47.

Chesney Hughes scored 81, while Wilden Cornwall chipped in with 38.

Leeward Islands’ opponents for Sunday’s final will be either hosts Jamaica or Barbados, who will face off in the second semi-final tomorrow.

That semifinal, which was scheduled for the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium, will now take place at Sabina Park. Organisers were forced to switch the match because of heavy rain in Trelawny today and forecast for more tomorrow.
