Waterford defeat Cumberland High

Waterford High registered a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Cumberland High yesterday to move a step closer in their bid for top honours in Group ‘A’ of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel urban area Manning Cup football competition.



With the victory, Waterford have joined Jamaica College atop the points’ table.



Both teams, which have already secured qualifications to the competition’s second round, are tied on 25 points.



They will face off in a rescheduled game tomorrow to decide the group winner. The group winner will qualify for the Walker Cup Knockout competition.



Captain Romain Gibbons led Waterford with a double strike, while Rohan Daley and Andre McFarlane provided the other goals.



Over in Group ‘E’, defending champions St George’s College warmed up for the Walker Cup Knockout with a 4-1 victory over St Jago, Wolmer’s Boys and Edith Dalton James battled to a 1-1l draw while Spanish Town hammered Donald Quarrie 8-0.



St George’s College and Wolmer’s Boys have secured the two spots from the group to the second round.



In the day’s other match, St Mary’s College outscored Oberlin High 4-2 in Group ‘A’.
