Jamaica suffered a big setback in their attempt to qualify for the women’s hockey competition at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico following a 3-0 defeat to Cuba yesterday at the Mona Hockey Turf.
The game was the first in a three-match series. The winner of the series will qualify for the Pan American Games.
The second game will take place tomorrow and the final match on Sunday.
Marisble Sierra led the Cubans with a second-half double strike after the teams had battled to a goalless draw in the first half.
Sierra netted her team’s second goal in the 38th minute after Yuraima Vera had given Cuba a 36th minute lead. Sierra completed the double in the 57th minute.
