Guyana bracing for storm
Residents in the densely populated areas of Guyana, including the capital, Georgetown, have been warned to prepare for strong winds and heavy rainfall associated with a weather disturbance that could develop into a tropical storm by tomorrow.
According to an advisory from the Guyana Met Office the disturbance which is moving west north westward, is expected to bring periods of heavy rainfall, outburst of thunder and lightning and strong gusty wind over Guyana, especially in the northern most part of Guyana.
The weather forecasters have also warned that there is an 80 per cent likelihood that the weather system could become a tropical cyclone.
Pilots, users of ocean-going vessels and residents in low lying areas have been asked to take the necessary precautions.
