Suriname Airways, (SLM) announced it will resume direct flights to the United States in August, after a nearly 16-year break.

The company’s spokesman Rudy Westerborg said as of August 25, SLM will operate direct flights to Miami, Florida in the US, with a stopover in Aruba.

The airline will operate two flights weekly. It will also continue to service other destinations in Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago and Curacao.

The US Federal Aviation Authority FAA recently lifted a ban on all Surinamese airlines.

The ban had been imposed after the country failed to implement several aviation safety measures.
