WICB outlines new IPL procedures

West Indies cricketers wishing to play in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) are now required to apply through the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

The WICB said it was advised of the new development by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The WICB said for the next three IPL seasons, Caribbean players will be required to send an email from their personal email accounts to the WICB indicating their interest.

The email should be in a specific format indicating an interest to play in the IPL in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Upon receipt of all expressions of interest, the WICB will create a register of all West Indian players who are interested in participating in the IPL and submit the names to the BCCI.

The BCCI will then enter the names into the IPL Auction Register and send to the respective IPL franchises for consideration.

The deadline for the submission of expressions of interest from players to the WICB is next Tuesday.

The 2011 season is anticipated to start on Friday, April 8 and will run for six to seven weeks.

The IPL Auction will be held in Mumbai on a date to be confirmed.
