New captain Sammy will get my support - Gayle
Former captain Chris Gayle has pledged his support for Darren Sammy on West Indies’ tour of Sri Lanka, which starts next week.
Following his decision to snub a West Indies Cricket Board central retainer contract, Gayle was replaced as captain of the side a few weeks ago, when directors of the board chose to appoint Sammy to the position.
The left-handed opener is looking forward to the trip, and said Sammy can count on him for guidance.
Gayle along with the first batch of players departed from Barbados yesterday for Sri Lanka.
The second half of the West Indies team leaves today for the tour, which includes three Tests, five One-Day Internationals, and a Twenty/20 International.
Gayle said all the players will rally around Sammy and give him the necessary support.
Gayle hailed the pre-tour camp. He said the camp has helped him to get his mind and body in shape for the rigorous trip to Sri Lanka.
