India piled on the pressure
Hosts India continued their dominance of the first Test in Ahmedabad as New Zealand closed day two 418 runs behind at 69 for 2.
After opening-day centuries from Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, seeking his 50th Test hundred, was caught and bowled for 40.
Harbhajan Singh then scored his highest Test score of 69 to lift India to 487 after they had resumed the second day on 329 for 5.
Singh smashed five fours and three sixes in an entertaining knock, putting on 66 for the ninth wicket with Pragyan Ojha after a middle-order collapse.
Daniel Vettori was the most successful bowler for New Zealand with 4 for 118 while Jeetan Patel supported with 3 for 135.
The tourists then lost Tim McIntosh and BJ Watling cheaply, but Brendon McCullum, 38, and Ross Taylor, 18, combined for an unbroken 42 to see them to 69 for two by the close of day two.
