US President backs India for UN Security Council

US President Barack Obama has backed India's bid to secure a permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council.
President Obama signalled his support during an address to the India's parliament yesterday.
He was culminating a three day visited to the country.
India has been trying for years to get a seat on the UN Security Council.
India's long-term rival Pakistan issued a quick response opposing the move, saying the US should not be swayed by what it says is power politics.
