Cholera confirmed in Port au Prince

Health officials in Haiti have confirmed that a three-year old boy from a Port-au-Prince tent city has cholera.

The acknowledgement proves that the country's growing epidemic has spread from outlying areas to the crowded capital.

Officials say they are also examining at least 120 suspected cases of cholera in Port-au-Prince.

The disease has already killed more than 540 people in Haiti.

There are fears that it could spread quickly in camps in Port-au-Prince which are housing survivors of the devastating earthquake in January.
