Eltham, Charlie Smith secure victories

Eltham High remain on course to qualify for the quarterfinals of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel urban area Manning Cup competition after defeating St Catherine rivals Waterford 1-0 yesterday.



The match was the second game of a Group One double-header at Prison Oval in Spanish Town.



Captain Dwayne Williams scored the lone goal in the 75th minute; a few minutes after Waterford were reduced to 10 men.



As a result of the victory, Eltham have moved to four points from two games. They are a point ahead of Waterford and Charlie Smith on three points each.



Charlie Smith, who lost their opening game on Friday to Waterford, rebounded with a 2-0 victory over St Andrew Technical High School in the first match at the venue.



Jovani Simms, with a 33rd minute penalty and Rushea Reynolds, 36th minute, scored the goals for Charlie Smith.



The second round continues this afternoon with a double-header at the Constant Spring field. Kingston College will tackle Jamaica College in the opening game at 1 p.m., followed by defending champions St George’s College against Bridgeport High.
