West Indies suffer batting collapse
West Indies made a timid start to their tour of Sri Lanka, suffering a familiar batting collapse on the opening day of their three-day tour game against Sri Lanka Cricket President’s Eleven today.
Opting to bat at the Sinhalese Sports Club after winning the toss, West Indies were dismissed for a paltry 176, after cruising at 110 for three at one stage.
West Indies vice-captain Brendan Nash top-scored with 62, while Shivnarine Chanderpaul chipped in with 33, Adrian Barath scored 21 and Andrew Russell 20.
Chanaka Welegedara and Malinga Bandara picked up three wickets apiece while Ajantha Mendis and Thilan Thushara supported with two wickets each.
At the close of play, Sri Lanka Cricket President’s Eleven were 56 for three. New West Indies captain Darren Sammy picked up a wicket for no runs.
Lahiru Thirimanne has so far top scored for Sri Lanka President’s Eleven with 30.
