The St Vincent-based Windward Islands Farmers Association (Winfa) is welcoming calls by one of the UK’s largest companies for British retailers to support Fair Trade and other social initiatives.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Co-operative Group, Peter Marks, made the appeal on Monday while suggesting that the Fair Trade Scheme make a fantastic contribution to the lives of workers in developing economies.

Winfa’s Coordinator Renwick Rose, who is a key advocate of Fair Trade, says farmers in the islands are trying to expand their involvement in the scheme to other crops in addition to bananas.
