The West Indies women’s team is now in the final stages of preparation for an historic tour of Europe.

The squad is now taking part in a four-day performance camp in Barbados under the guidance of coach Sherwin Campbell.

They will leave on Saturday for a 12-match tour of Ireland, Holland and England.

The tour of Europe is a key component to the team’s preparation for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC), Women’s World Cup in Australia early next year.

The team is also slated to participate in the ICC World Twenty/Twenty in England in June 2009.

Experienced left-hander Nadine George, who was the first West Indian to make a century in women’s Test cricket, has been named as captain.
