Reigning champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) secured their place in the quarter-final round of the 2010 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel rural-area daCosta Cup football competition when they blanked Grange Hill 2-0 yesterday.

The game was played at STETHS. They qualified as the winner of Group Four.

STETHS, who completed their fixture with seven points, got their goals through midfielder Akeem Jones and the prolific Denmark Gillings.

By virtue of advancing, STETHS remain on course to win the rural double having already bagged the Ben Francis Knockout title.

Rusea’s ended their inter-zone campaign with a perfect win record, after spanking Brown’s Town 3-0 in their Group Two game at Jarrett Park to finish with maximum nine points.

St James High, the 2008 champions, made it a fantastic afternoon for western Jamaica teams, scoring a big 4-0 win over St Mary High in the Group-One game, the second of a Jarrett Park double-header.

By virtue of that win, St James High finished on seven points, the same as Marcus Garvey Technical, who registered a 1-0 win over Frome Technical. As a consequence, St James topped the group on goal difference, while Marcus Garvey advanced as one of the top two second-place finishers.

Glenmuir also sealed their place in the quarterfinals in fine style, after blanking Charlemont 3-0 in Group Five.

Like Rusea’s and Glenmuir, Lennon also sealed their quarter-final place in emphatic style, brushing aside Manning’s 3-0 to win Group Three with maximum nine points.

Garvey Maceo also advanced despite going down 2-1 to Old Harbour. Both teams ended on six points but Garvey Maceo emerged Group-Six winners on goal difference. Old Harbour advanced as one of the best second placed team.
