Rain, no play between WI and Sri Lanka President’s XI
Play was abandoned without a single ball bowled on today’s second day of the three-day match against West Indies and the Sri Lanka Cricket President’s Eleven in Colombo.
The umpires called off play after heavy rain overnight left the Sinhalese Sports Club ground flooded.
The rain continued into the early morning and play on the final day is also in doubt in the warm up match for the three-match Test series, which begins on Monday.
On the first day of the match, West Indies made a timid start to their tour of Sri Lanka, suffering a familiar batting collapse.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, West Indies were dismissed for a paltry 176, after cruising at 110 for three at one stage.
West Indies vice-captain Brendan Nash top-scored with 62, while Shivnarine Chanderpaul chipped in with 33,Adrian Barath scored 21 and Andre Russell 20.
Sri Lanka Cricket President’s Eleven will resume on 56 for three if play is possible on the final day.
The wickets went to the new ball pair of Kemar Roach and Nelon Pascal, while skipper Darren Sammy grabbed the other in his first over.
