daCosta Cup quarterfinals kick off Saturday
The quarter-final round of the rural area ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup football competition kicks off on Saturday with reigning champions, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) playing out of Group One.
STETHS earned their spot in the top eight after goals from Ackeem Jones in the 10th and Denmark Gillings in the 55th carried them to a 2-0 win over Grange Hill at Santa Cruz yesterday.
STETHS will now play alongside St James High, Marcus Garvey Technical and Glenmuir High in the quarterfinals. Glenmuir advanced from the Inter-Zone round with a perfect win record.
Group Two is being led by former champions Rusea’s, who completed the Inter-zone round with a perfect win record. The group also includes Lennon High, Garvey Maceo and Old Harbour High.
In the opening set of games, STETHS and St James High will face off at Santa Cruz at 3 p.m. Glenmuir will meet Marcus Garvey Technical in the first game of a double-header at JAMALCO in Clarendon, starting at 1 p.m. followed by Garvey Maceo High playing Old Harbour at 3 p.m.
The day’s other game features Lennon High against Rusea’s High at Brooks Park in Manchester, starting at 3 p.m.
