At least 20 people were killed and 100 injured during an attack on an anti-terrorist police headquarters in Pakistan's largest city, Karachi.
The police say they exchanged fire with militants trying to storm the Criminal Investigation Department building.
A truck laden with explosives then drove into the boundary wall, detonated its load and almost completely destroyed the structure.
Eyewitnesses say the blast left a crater three metres wide.
Government spokeswoman, Sharmilla Farooqi, says there are five policemen among the dead and it is feared that some female cops are among the casualties.
The latest attack comes a day after the police arrested several wanted militants in the city, who are said to belong to Pakistan's most dangerous group.
