Cuba President clears the air on economic reforms

Cuban president Raul Castro has been seeking to clarify the type of economic reforms he is proposing for the country.

He has published a 32-page booklet entitled 'Guidelines for Social and Economic Policy'.

In it Castro insists that planned reforms will not move Cuba toward capitalism, but are an update of communist ideals embraced by the government for the past half-century.

The government this month unveiled a five-year plan that calls for cuts in social spending while attracting private capital.
