India take charge of decisive Test
Rahul Dravid fell nine runs short of a double century as hosts India established a huge first-innings lead in the decisive third Test against New Zealand in Nagpur on today’s third day.
Dravid, who resumed the day on 69, went on to score 191. He shared a 193-run sixth-wicket stand with Mahendra Singh Dhoni, 98, to lead India to 566 for eight declared in reply to the Black Caps' 193.
India were 292 for two overnight.
Batting a second time New Zealand reached 24 for one at stumps, needing 349 more runs to make India bat again.
Sachin Tendulkar started the day 57 not out as he went in search of a 50th Test century, but he could add just four more runs before he fell to debutant Andy McKay, sending an outside edge through to wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins.
Daniel Vettori was the most successful bowler for New Zealand with three for 178 while Chis Martin had two for 82.
Scores in the match so far are New Zealand 198 and 24 for one; India 566 for eight declared.
The previous two Tests, in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad, were drawn.
