Anguilla’s leading track and field athlete Shara Proctor says she will compete for the United Kingdom at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The 22-year-old long jumper will now join the UK Athletic Association as the first step in her preparation to towards making the switch.

Proctor, who is majoring in sports administration at the University of Florida, says it has always been her dream to compete in the Olympics under the Anguilla flag.

However, Proctor says she cannot fully realise her dream since Anguilla is not an Olympic nation.

Anguilla is a British dependent territory and as a result Proctor is qualified to represent that country.

Under the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) rules, Proctor will not be able to represent Anguilla in any international competitions while competing for England.

Proctor will have to go through trials in order to gain selection but given her current standing, is expected to make the team.
