Miners blame police

The father of a man, who was among eight miners whose burnt bodies were discovered on the weekend in Guyana, accused the police of carrying out the gruesome killings.

The police said they have launched a probe into the deaths of the eight diamond miners, whose bodies were found in a densely forested southeastern area of the country.

They said crime scene investigators and a medical examiner would inspect the charred remains of the men and search the area for clues.

Up to yesterday, law enforcement authorities said they had no clue as to who killed the miners and later burnt their bodies.

The owner of the mining camp at Lindo Creek, George Arokium was adamant that his workers were killed by members of the security forces, who had gone into the area looking for criminals and mistook the miners for them.
