Obama declares St Croix a disaster area

US President Barak Obama has declared St Croix in the US Virgin Islands, a major disaster area.
The territory was hit by major flooding associated with tropical storm Tomas earlier this month.
Obama’s declaration frees federal aid for recovery efforts.
The territory’s delegate to Congress Donna Christensen has praised Obama for the attention he has paid to the US Virgin Islands in wake of the disaster.
