Low voter turnout in Haiti
Voting has begun in Haiti for a new president even as the earthquake-ravaged country continues to battle a deadly cholera epidemic.
About 4.7 million people are registered to vote for one of the 18 presidential candidates, parliamentary deputies and senators.
According to the BBC there has been a slow start so far as only a few ballots have been cast at one major polling station at the national football stadium in Port-au-Prince, hours after polls opened.
Other polling stations in the capital have seen a similar voter turnout.
Violence and concerns about voter fraud have already overshadowed the elections.
Some 11,000 United Nations peacekeepers are in Haiti to assist with security and to give other logistical support.
About 230,000 people were killed in a devastating earthquake which struck the country in January of this year. Most victims still live in tented camps in the capital, Port-au-Prince.
The country is now battling a cholera epidemic, which has killed at least 1000 people.
