OAS on Haiti elections

The Organisation of American States-CARICOM Joint Electoral Observation Mission on Haiti’s Presidential and Legislative Elections held on Sunday has made an appeal to all the political actors for peace and calm in the coming days.

It has also urged them to display leadership by ensuring that their supporters do the same.

The Mission says it will continue to observe the electoral process starting with the operations of the Tabulation Centre.

Some of the presidential candidates have called for the elections to be declared null and void and thousands of people took to the street yesterday claiming that they were prevented from casting their ballots.

The international community that invested millions of dollars and sent hundreds of people to help the government plan and run the election reacted with caution to the fraud accusations.

Preliminary results are not expected to be released until December 7.
