Jamaica qualify for semi-finals of Digicel Caribbean Cup

Reigning champions Jamaica booked their place in the semi-finals of the Digicel Caribbean Cup last night after securing a 2-0 victory over Guadeloupe at the Riviere Pilote Stadium in Martinique.



Shaun Francis 53rd minute and Ryan Johnson in time added on scored the goals for Jamaica, giving the Reggae Boyz their second victory in as many starts and a clear lead of Group ‘I’ on six points.



The Reggae Boys are three points ahead of second place Antigua and Barbuda, who defeated Guyana 1-0 in the first game at the venue. Guyana and Guadeloupe are locked on a point each.



The victory also qualified the Reggae Boyz to the Gold Cup tournament as the top two teams from the group are guaranteed qualification to CONCACAF’s flagship tournament.



The victory came 24 hours after the Reggae Boyz threatened not to take any further part in the co



The players had demanded US$1,200 per diem and 80 per cent of the prize money should they go on to win the competition.



However, the players decided to call off their planned strike action after JFF’s president Captain Horace Burrell agreed to meet their demands.
