West Indies, Sri Lanka face off in third test
West Indies' hopes of winning a Test series in the subcontinent is in danger of being washed out as persistent rain is threatening to disrupt the third and final Test against Sri Lanka which starts tonight at 11.30 p.m. Jamaica time.
The match will take place international cricket's 104th Test venue, Pallekele.
West Indies coach Ottis Gibson says to be in with a chance of winning in the subcontinent is exciting.
He further says all the players are looking forward to win in the subcontinent.
West Indies last won in the subcontinent against one of the three giants of Asian cricket in 1983-84 when Clive Lloyd's team beat India 3-0 in a six-Test series.
This series has been dogged by bad weather and the series remains tied at 0-0 going into the decider.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankans go into the game with the added boost that captain Kumar Sangakkara has reclaimed the top spot in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Test rankings for batsmen,
The Sri Lankan bowling, their main strength before the retirement of seamer Chaminda Vaas and world Test wicket record holder Muttiah Muralitharan, has been less than penetrative against the West Indies and was destroyed by former captain Chris Gayle in the first Test when he made a career-best 333.
