France, Cuba resume ties

Cuba and France have resumed economic cooperation talks after a seven year break.

Correspondents say it appears to be another step in improving relations between Cuba and the European Union (EU).

Cuba has turned down EU aid since 2003 when Europe imposed diplomatic sanctions on Havana because of its arrest of 75 political dissidents.

The EU is to decide this month whether it will soften its policy on the island in light of the release of prisoners.
