Bravo, Smith help Windies
Half-centuries from Darren Bravo and Devon Smith helped West Indies recover from the early loss of Chris Gayle to close a rain-affected first day of the third and deciding Test against hosts Sri Lanka on 134 for two.
Gayle was out first ball after play was delayed by nearly two hours in Kandy in the morning, with only 15 overs possible before lunch.
Bravo 63 not out and Smith 55 steadied the ship, and also saw out the 8.3 overs that were possible in the afternoon, before Smith finally fell in the evening with the partnership on 115.
Gayle, who made 333 in the first Test, was trapped lbw without scoring by debutant Suranga Lakmal, bowing his first ball in Test cricket.
The Windies were 45 for one at lunch, and Bravo took control thereafter until bad light stopped play.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the other undefeated batsman. He is on 11. Suranga Lakmal and Ajantha Mendis have taken the wickets to fall.
The three-Test series between the two sides is level at 0-0, after the first two Tests at the Galle International Stadium and the Premadasa Stadium were both drawn.
It means that West Indies are still seeking their first ever Test match victory on Sri Lanka soil.
