Australia/West Indies face off

West Indies and world champions Australia will face off today in the opening game of the Digicel five-match One-Day International Series at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex in St. Vincent.

The Caribbean side has a few injury concerns.

Captain Chris Gayle, who has not fully recovered from a groin injury, is likely to return, three other players are troubled by minor injuries.

They include key batsmen Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan, as well as wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin.

With Ramdin in doubt, it is expected that fellow wicket-keeper/batsman Patrick Brown will be the preferred choice for duties behind the stumps.

Young Grenadian batsman Andre Fletcher is poised for his One-Day International with the uncertainty over Chanderpaul and Sarwan.

The West Indies camp is bubbling with confidence following last week one-off 20/20 victory over the Australians.

Australia’s captain Ricky Ponting said his team should beat the Caribbean team in the series.
