International media company IEC in Sports has reached an agreement with the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) for the broadcasting rights to the JN International Invitational track and field meet.

The 2011 staging of the meet will take place at the National Stadium in Kingston on May 7.

The agreement, between the JAAA and IEC In Sports, was reached a few weeks after the sport’s governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federations, (IAAF) upgraded the meet to World Challenge status.

It means that the JN International Invitational is now one notch below the lucarative IAAF Diamond League status. The meet was previously classified as a North America, Central America and Caribbean area permit meet.

President of the JAAA Howard Ares says he is very happy to enter the agreement with IEC In Sports.

IEC’s head of athletics, Magnus Tegel says from an IEC in Sports point of view, the deal is one of the most important agreements for the upcoming athletic season, since Jamaica is one of the driving forces in the world of athletics today.

The company has offices in Stockholm, Lausanne, Sydney, Hong Kong and Dubai.
