Jagdeo begged for sincerity on climate change issues

Guyana’s president Bharrat Jagdeo is calling for developed countries to show sincerity in their pledges towards dealing with climate change issues.

Addressing the sixteenth United Nations Climate Change Summit that ends today, Jagdeo lamented the slow pace of implementation of key actions that were agreed on at the last UN conference in Copenhagen in 2009.

He also questioned whether the developed world is sincere in its commitments to provide immediate action on financing for the developing world.

Jagdeo said that not every country present in Cancun supports the Copenhagen Accord and that many associated themselves with the agreement reluctantly.

He also said the potential for progress would rapidly dwindle and that those who have expended extensive political capital to rally public support for action on climate change will see that support retreat.
