Jamaica withdraws from CABA Championships
The Jamaica Boxing Board of Control (JBBC) will not send a team to Trinidad and Tobago for the 2008 Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) Championships.
The Championships will be held from July 22 to 26 at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre.
President of the JBBC, William Tavares-Finson, said he is not interested in CABA Championships until that association settles a financial issue with his body.
Tavares-Finson said his association is seeking compensations for spending $500,000 for last year’s championships in St. Maarten, which had to be cancelled at the last minute.
Last year’s Championships were called off because 15 of the 19 delegations comprising more than 200 boxers and officials had nowhere to stay after arriving in St. Maarten.
Tavares-Finson said there would be no representation without compensation.
